About me
I'm Marina Dowden, a self-taught painter from Prague (Czech Republic). I work with a variety of painting mediums such as soft pastels, acrylic, oil. I started my career path as a teacher of music, went on to study linguistics and after my graduation became a teacher of English only to discover later in life that it is art that fascinates me the most. It is painting that gives me the opportunity to experiment, to explore, to experience feeling of freedom.
I view painting as the ultimate expression of freedom. Each brushstroke is a testament to my belief in the liberating power of art, capturing the essence of fleeting moments with a vivid, emotive palette. There are no walls, no boundaries in art. My fans say that I create from my heart. My passion towards artwork over the years has helped me to develop a style which is constantly changing and evolving.
Born in Baku to an Armenian family I'm fascinated by both the sea and the mountains. I draw inspiration from nature, travelling, music, books, films, memories and photography, from other artists and their artwork. The painting style that captivates me the most is impressionism that aims to depict the transience of light, and to capture scenes of life and the natural world in their ever-shifting conditions.
Nature, in its myriad forms and ever-changing beauty, has always been my greatest source of inspiration. Through the lens of impressionism, I strive to capture the fleeting moments and ephemeral qualities of the natural world, translating them onto canvas with vibrant colours and dynamic brushstrokes.
In every piece, I seek to evoke a sense of wonder and serenity, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the world around us and the intricate interplay of light, colour, and form that defines our environment. Through my art, I aim to convey the essence of nature’s splendour and the profound sense of freedom that painting brings to my soul.
Recently I have started running painting workshops driven by my belief in the healing power of art.
My paintings have been featured at various art festivals and exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad, garnering admiration and acclaim from audiences and critics alike. My art can be found in some private collections and can be purchased here.
